About The Artist
Nancy Foley is a Richmond VA native who now lives in Mechanicsville and Urbanna Va. As a child and teen she dreamed of becoming an artist but when the time came for college she chose "a more practical" major.
Thirty years later she again found her paint brush and enrolled in a watercolor class at Virginia Museum Studio School. She continued developing her style and technique, training with Richmond's best watercolor artists. She traveled to national workshops and took weekly classes to push herself into a daily regimen of painting.
Nancy's stated goal is to take everyday "slices of life" and develop a well-designed painting. Her works burst with her fascination for color, light, shadows and reflections. To compose her beautifully detailed studio paintings, she first composes them through her ever-present camera lens, spotting inspiration everywhere. Although she says the end result is always a surprise, she spends hours planning a painting before she dives into the spontaneity of painting wet on wet. Although her first love is the magic of watercolor, she also works in acrylics.
A member of the James River Art Leaague and Virginia Plein Air Painters, Nancy is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, having been juried into their annual exhibits for past six years straight.
